ARTIST STATEMENT
The universal longing to be seen, appreciated, and desired is an intrinsic part of the human condition, yet it’s rarely openly acknowledged in polite society. At a certain point in my life, I could no longer ignore this fundamental truth. I am drawn to erotic art because it lays bare an essential aspect of our shared humanity: the primal need to be held, vulnerable, and loved—regardless of cultural, social, or personal differences. It is through this vulnerability that we forge genuine connections, and my work seeks to explore and celebrate that intimacy.
As a multidisciplinary artist, my practice centers around relational intelligence, intimacy, and pleasure. I aim to remind viewers of the joy and importance of authentic connection. My process is informed by healing modalities, embodiment practices, and the science of visual psychophysics—the study of how stimuli evoke sensations and emotional responses. I am particularly interested in how visual cues of affection impact us emotionally and physiologically. Can optical illusions serve as tools for healing? Do they soothe emotional trauma by evoking the sensation of closeness? I investigate these questions through interactive installations that blend mirrors with life-size figure drawings, creating optical illusions that mimic the experience of receiving affection.
These works actively involve the audience, inviting participation through physical positioning in specific spaces. When viewers engage with the installation, they partake in tangible moments of connection—simulating physical touch and intimacy. Through this interactive approach, I aspire to evoke feelings of safety, joy, and vulnerability, highlighting the power of affectionate gestures.
My art is figurative and minimal, emphasizing the subtle and dynamic interactions between bodies—whether they are tender, vulnerable, or rooted in self-love. By creating playful, unexpected interactions, I hope to foster a sense of communal connection in a world often divided by polarization. These sculptures and installations are an ode to the joy of being human—quirky, intimate, private, public, and ultimately, profoundly connected.
Ultimately, my work celebrates the essence of our humanity: the capacity for joy, intimacy, and authentic connection. It’s an affirmation of what it means to be alive and to experience the kindness and vulnerability that unite us all.

BIO
Patty Suau is a Cuban-American artist born in and currently based in Miami, Florida. Suau received a Bachelors in Fine Art from Florida International University in 2010 after leaving Maryland Institute, College of Art in 2005 to pursue her academic degree in International Relations. Today the works continue to evolve, varying in size and medium but always addressing self-love, connection, intimacy and emotional intelligence.
Selected Solo exhibitions include “Love Me/Touch Me” (2020) at Bay Parc in Midtown Miami, Florida, and “Tiny Fckn Pix” (2018) at Bodhi Wellness Center in Coral Gables, Florida.
